Headline in theatlantic.com July 14, 2025 as well as many other news organizations:
“The Trump Administration Is About to Incinerate 500 Tons of Emergency Food”*
In its zeal to prevent waste and—I’ve blocked the other jargon words—the Trump Administration has been hanging on to nearly 500 metric tons of high-energy biscuits— “emergency food”—for five months patiently waiting for their expiration date to come due.
The packaged biscuits, acquired by the Biden Administration for NSAID for “about $800,000,” were intended to keep about 1.5 million** small children in Afghanistan and Pakistan from starving to death for one week.
Hana Kiros writes, “Five months into its unprecedented dismantling of foreign-aid programs, the Trump administration has given the order to incinerate food instead of sending it to people abroad who need it.”
Apparently, the biscuits’ end date has come due. I’ve scoured the internet trying to see whether they have, in fact, been burned up. Also apparently somebody has got cold feet and won’t light the match…
ABC News quotes the State Department in various squishy burbles as to why and how and what-not: “The State Department is defending its plans to destroy approximately 500 tons of taxpayer-funded emergency food resources, arguing that it represents only a small portion of the food aid the U.S. distributes each year.”***
The biscuits are in a warehouse in Dubai—I mean, they’re a few hours’ flight from the children!
Isn’t this the most despicable, demonic state of affairs thusfar?
What on earth can we do?

Well said, Sylvia. The level of flat out evil in our government is simply staggering. Thanks for spreading the word on this particular atrocity because the news reports on it has been pretty low key. I hope everyone who reads your blog will pass it on to their community of friends. I think it is important to continue to tell everyone we can reach about these things. We can not be allowed to close our eyes and pretend it isn’t happening. Children are dying.
