So I’ve had a run of physical annoyances…this and that…nothing too scary.
Everything under control. So far.
The main thing I can take charge of (you can’t take charge of how your inside thises and thats function, so it’s nice to be able to DO SOMETHING ABOUT SOMETHING) is being hydrated.
Sopping–lubricating–my 91-year-old bod’ with plenty of fluids so its machinery functions smoothly.
Five to six glasses of water per day plus cups of green tea, plenty of juicy fruits and vegetables.
We have a grandson who taught me a fun phrase: when I asked the likes of, “Jordan, would you like some eggplant for supper?” he’d politely, sweetly respond, “I’m not a fan of eggplant.”
So I can say I’m not a fan of plain water. But for this old bod’ it’s become essential. Crucial. So I drink it faithfully.
The first-in-the-morning glass has been unpleasant, standing leaning against the sink, chug-a-lugging the pale nothing. Ugh.
Then all of a sudden a few days ago after coming in from watering the garden, I was struck with a delicious idea: Drink your water in the garden with your friends!
Such a bright lady.
I’ve just finished tucking autumn crops into our raised beds—lots of greens like several varieties of lettuce, mizuna, kale, strawberries, carrots, beets, calendulas, tarragon, thymes, oregano…plus the luxuriant French sorrel I transplanted from a tub.
So now I add an extra seven minutes (I’ve counted) to the morning routine (make coffee, feed Uschi, fill her water bowl, open the blinds, bring in the newspaper, set the breakfast table) by coming into our small back garden and sitting on a chair, quietly, with Mother Nature for a companion. Sipping my water.
Oh yes. I indulged myself by finding a beautiful tall glass tumbler handblown in Mexico, all greens and blues…a pleasure to drink from. I often plop half a small Meyer lemon in the bottom. Makes a lovely difference.
I hope I can do it when it rains, sit under an umbrella. We shall see.
Good idea, huh? Turning a dreaded chore into a soothing pleasure.
And just at a toll of seven minutes.
I’m so happy when I can solve a problem.
