Emily Hahn

A heroine of mine, St Louis-born, Emily broke molds from the Belgian Congo to Shanghai to Dorset to Manhattan. A fearless imaginative early feminist and writer–called by The New Yorker “a forgotten American literary treasure”—Hahn wrote fifty books and 200 articles as a correspondent for the magazine. My parents had dinner with her and her Chinese lover in Shanghai on the brink of The War…were fascinated, charmed. Wish I’d been there, too. Begin with her memoir, “No Hurry to Get Home.”
