Here I am.
Still sickabed on two chairs.
Never occurred to me I’d be in bed with bronchitis for a whole long week. Nuisance. (The worst part is I didn’t get around to unpacking from our trip to Boise when two days later we dashed down to Santa Monica…certainly haven’t unpacked from S.M.. Bedroom’s a shambles. Neatness is a nuisance…love it, but it’s annoying.)
But last night. Hey, last night!
The Democrats—the No Kings Movement—came roaring across the country and grabbed hold of Trumpian candidates by the neck…shook them hard…then dumped them into a pile of has-beens.
It wasn’t long ago I commented in these pages that each American now had to DO SOMETHING to try to rescue us from the oncoming disintegration of our democracy.
Yesterday in all its American beauty we began the process.
I no longer fear we’re going to lose our democracy. No we’re not. Abigail, Mikie, Zohran & Co. won’t allow it.
Donald Trump doesn’t know what hit him—he’s too wrapped up in himself to understand that Americans have finally seen him for what he is. And no longer will tolerate his authoritarian sociopathy trashing their lives…
Abigail, Mikie, Zohran. New names. New faces. New backgrounds. New approaches to governing.
And how about that blast from California…whoa…people standing outside in the dark waiting to vote Yes on ONE QUESTION. But it was a question at the heart of the matter: will I have honest representation in Congress?
The beginning of The Beginning of our American Renaissance.
I know it’s going to take a while. And hard work. Focus. Contributions. Any minute it will be spring with its primary elections… I’m already hearing from Deb Haaland in New Mexico—she’d be the third woman governor—and the first Native American. Exciting!
I’m so happy I was part of The No Kings March. And that Bill and I have been able to contribute to campaigns of candidates who love America–not themselves–first and foremost.
Onward. Upward.
Right now, truth to tell, I think it’d be fascinating–fun-and-a-half–to live in New York City.
“Turn the volume up!!!”*

Great Blog! Don’t underestimate the powerful showing at the CA polls for Prop 50! Lots of great results and even greater messaging from this off year election!
I would love to get a dozen or so folks together to buy or rent a 300 or 400 square foot apartment in Manhattan, with each of us getting an equal amount of time in NYC each year. I wouldn’t choose to live there full time but my goodness it is a great city. I wish Mamdani all the best–he has taken on a very tough job, and frankly he has promised them the moon. I would love to see him make some of it happen. Feel better soon. Sending all good wishes to Santa Monica.
